Pros Around

Accessibility statement

Our commitment

Everyone should be able to find a local pro, read reviews and send a request. We build Pros Around to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, for the public site and for the pro dashboard.

Where we are

We believe the site meets WCAG 2.2 level AA in the areas listed below, apart from the known limits further down. This is our own assessment, not an outside audit.

What we do

  • Keyboard: every link, button and form works without a mouse, in a logical order, with a visible focus outline. A “Skip to content” link is the first stop on every page.
  • Images: photos and logos carry a text description. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Colour: text and controls meet the 4.5:1 and 3:1 contrast ratios, and colour is never the only way something is shown.
  • Forms: every field has a visible label, and an error says what is wrong and how to fix it.
  • Moving content: the banner on the home page changes slide by itself. It stops when you point at it or move into it with the keyboard, it has a Pause button and previous and next buttons, and it does not move at all if your device is set to reduce motion.
  • Zoom and small screens: pages work at 200% zoom and on a phone, without sideways scrolling.

How we check

Our automated tests scan each kind of page on both sites against the WCAG 2.2 A and AA rules, including colour contrast, labels, image descriptions and page structure, and they fail the build when a page breaks one. We also tab through key pages by hand. Automated tools find roughly a third to a half of accessibility problems, so reports from people who use assistive technology matter to us.

Known limits

  • Ads: ads come from a third-party ad network. We choose where they appear and label them, but we do not control what an advertiser puts inside one.
  • Spam check: forms may show a Cloudflare Turnstile check. It is a third-party tool, and it offers no audio alternative of its own.
  • Pro-written content: pros write their own descriptions, and some may upload photos with a short description. We ask for descriptions, but we cannot check every one.
  • Older documents: a few exported PDFs and files that pros download may not be fully tagged for screen readers.

Tell us about a barrier

If something on Pros Around is hard to use, or you need information in another format, please tell us through the Contact page. Say which page and what you were trying to do, and, if you can, which browser and assistive technology you use. We aim to reply within 5 business days and to fix the problem as soon as we can. If you need to reach a pro and the site is blocking you, we will help you send the request.
