Ask for the full price in writing, with every fee and tax listed, so you can compare one dealer with another. Ask for the vehicle identification number (VIN), and for any warranty terms in writing. Take your time with the paperwork and do not sign anything you have not read.

It depends on the state, and sometimes the city. Many states license dealers, and the rules can differ for new and used sales. 'Licence verified' on a listing means we matched the licence number to the licensing board's record on the date shown. If a listing has no mark, ask the dealer for their licence number and check it with your state's board.

A new car has not had a previous owner. A used car has, and its history matters more. For a used car, ask for a vehicle history report, ask what the dealer checked or repaired before sale, and ask whether you can have your own mechanic look at it first.

You can ask. Many buyers have an independent shop do a pre-purchase inspection, and a dealer's answer to the request tells you something. Agree who pays and where the car will be taken before you go.

For a trade-in, ask the dealer what papers they need, such as the title or loan details and the keys. For financing, ask for the terms in writing and compare them with any offer from your own bank or credit union. Pros Around does not give financial advice.
