The materials by name, the area to be covered, removing and disposing of old flooring, preparing the floor underneath, labour, trim and thresholds, and the warranty on materials and on the work.

Ask the flooring company to measure, and to say how much extra material they allow for cuts and waste. Measuring yourself is useful for a first idea, but the quote should be based on their measurement.

Ask whether the existing floor needs levelling, repair or a moisture check before new flooring goes on, and whether that is in the quote or extra.

It depends on the type of flooring and the adhesive or finish used. Ask the installer when you can walk on it and when you can move furniture back, and keep to their advice.

The price depends on the size and difficulty of the job. Some pros publish a starting price on their listing. Ask two or three for a written quote that says what is included, and compare the scope as well as the price.
