A general contractor manages a whole project and hires the trades, such as plumbers and electricians, that it needs. A trade contractor does one kind of work. Ask who will be on your site and who is responsible for them.

Ask for recent jobs like yours, and for people you can contact. Ask those people whether the job was finished on time, on budget, and whether the site was kept tidy.

The price depends on the size and difficulty of the job. Some pros publish a starting price on their listing. Ask two or three for a written quote that says what is included, and compare the scope as well as the price.
