Translator and Interpreter in Providence, RI

A translator works with written text, such as documents or websites. An interpreter works with spoken words, either live in the room or by phone or video. Many people do both, so ask which you need and which the professional offers.

Ask which language pairs they work in and whether they have experience with your subject, for example medical, legal or technical material. Fluency in two languages is not the same as skill in translating a specialist document.

It depends on who asks for it. Some offices want a certified or sworn translation, and the rules differ by state and by the office. Ask the office that needs the document what it requires, then ask the translator if they can provide it.

Tell the interpreter the topic, the language and the type of setting before the day. Send any names, terms or documents that will come up. Ask how they handle private information.

Ask what format they want, such as a scan or an editable file, and make sure the text is readable. Tell them who will read the translation and how it will be used. Ask how they treat private documents.

The price depends on the size and difficulty of the job. Some pros publish a starting price on their listing. Ask two or three for a written quote that says what is included, and compare the scope as well as the price.

Only customers who contacted a pro through Pros Around can review them, using a link that works once. Pros can reply but cannot delete a review, and reviews are never sold. An admin hides a review only if it breaks our rules, and the reason is recorded.
