Send what the design is for, who it is aimed at, any logo or colours you already use, and examples you like. Say where it will appear, such as print, web or a sign. A short, clear brief helps the designer tell you what the project involves.

This is set by the agreement between you and the designer, not by a general rule. Ask who owns the final files, whether you get the editable source files, and whether there are limits on how you can use the work. Get the answer in writing.

Designers set this in their own terms. Ask how many rounds of revisions the quote covers, what counts as a revision, and what happens if you want to change direction part way through.

Ask for the formats you need for each use, for example a print-ready file for the printer and a web-ready file for your site. A logo often needs a version that scales to any size. Tell the designer where you will use the work and ask what they will hand over.

The price depends on the size and difficulty of the job. Some pros publish a starting price on their listing. Ask two or three for a written quote that says what is included, and compare the scope as well as the price.
